Technip was awarded a contract for the installation of offshore equipment for the Pazflor offshore field, which is located in Angola. Operated by Total E&P Angola, the offshore field has a maximum water depth of 1,410 metres. The job includes the installation of subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines, water injection and gas injection.
BigLift Shipping transported a huge number of these flexible pipes on the Happy Ranger from the factory in Le Trait to Luanda in Angola. At the same time, a fully loaded carousel, weighing well over 2,200 mt, was installed on the upper deck and several reels of up to 300 mt per piece, were stowed in the lower hold.
After Happy Ranger arrived in the port of Luanda, the crew started with spooling the line on the carousel over to the offshore installation vessel Deep Pioneer. Then a few days later the reels from the lower hold were also shifted to Deep Pioneer.
Immediately following the demobilisation for Pazflor in Le Trait, the Happy Ranger could start loading project cargo for Technip’s Aseng offshore field. This field is located close to Equatorial Guinea, at a water depth of approximately 1,000 metres.
In Finland, 11 umbilical piles, with a maximum height of 13.5 metres and 54 mt, were loaded on board of the vessel. Directly following this the vessel headed for Le Trait again but this time to load six reels below deck. Flexible lines on the carousel were already on board for the Pazflor contract.
This showed that the configuration installed on the m.v. Happy Ranger for Pazflor, proved very convenient for the next contract for a completely different field. Therefore, working together with Technip, BigLift was able to execute two different contracts with one ship’s configuration!
