Commercial Manager

Operating a fleet of 25 state of the art heavy lift and heavy transport vessels, complex cargo operations in heavy lift, heavy transport or offshore supply are day-to-day business. In the Commercial Shipping Department in Amsterdam, we are looking for a Commercial Manager Shipping.

What is the Job about:

The Commercial Manager combines Sales and Business Development tasks for a specific region or product group. It is important to maintain excellent relations with our customers in our network and to actively identify future business opportunities. Moreover, the Commercial Manager looks to expand our network and market share in Heavy Lift Transportation and Offshore Supply, to ensure invitations for tenders and to contribute to positive relations with our clients. As Commercial Manager, you will be an integral part of the commercial team which is dedicated to delivering tailor-made engineered solutions to our customers. Regularly in close cooperation with the other Spliethoff Group companies.

What would be your job:

  • Manage client relationships by regular contact and visit, this in close coordination with our international office and agency network.
  • Stay in regular contact with clients, BigLift offices abroad and commercial agents in the assigned regions.
  • Proactively investigate and canvass special cargoes for our Heavy lift and Heavy transport vessels.
  • Work out daily inquiries and liaise with the operations department for operational and technical input where needed.
  • Negotiate freight rates and contract details, tariffs and conditions, and present firm offers to clients.
  • Liaise with our Operations, Engineering, and QHSE departments, to safeguard the smooth execution of the contracted works.
  • Stay fully updated and proactively act on market developments and trends.

What do we ask:

  • 2+ years experience in a commercial role, preferably in the marine industry;
  • A proven track-record of securing sales and business opportunities;
  • A great listener and communicator, at least in the English language;
  • A strong but flexible personality willing to be part of the team;
  • A creative mind, entrepreneurship and you like to travel;
  • Able to liaise at all levels of an organisation, both internally and externally.
